Everywhere you turn nowadays , someone or something is telling you to definitely Go Green!  Years ago , going green meant with envy, but these days people are getting hip to the fact the environment is in trouble but it ’s on us to aid make it a better place.

Now, I’m no Greenpeace Protester , however I do my share .  I recycle.  I turn off lights.  I even purchased those ugly spiral illumination bulbs for lamps in my house .  For some people , these minor life modifications are sufficient .  For other people who wish to achieve more, one can find surprisingly many things they can do to decrease their carbon footprint in the world.

My first vacation to an eco-friendly resort was a couple of years ago in Tulum.  I’m no camper, by any means , therefore when I read the quick inventory of effects to bring , my anxiety level went up a notch upon seeing flashlight as on the list of must-haves.  

A flashlight? I thought.  What’s up with the electricity?  There is none past 11pm, that’s what!  Without hesitation , many people would by no means even consider staying in a place that doesn’t have full electricity running 24 hours each day , seven days a week.  Nevertheless , I was desperate for the escape .  I figured I’d pay a visit to what this whole eco-resort thing was all about.

It was 2006 and my first time in Tulum.  I’ve been back three times since!  My experience was spectacular .  Being on the seaside takes care of the worry that it’ll be excessively hot in the room lacking A/C.  The lights being turned off later than 11pm wasn’t an issue at all.  I had my flashlight, but there were also Tiki torches lighting up the whole property, so yeah, electrical energy wasn’t truly missed at all.  By and large , my opening venture into eco-tourism was no different than any other holiday I’d had from the past.

I should note that a number of the eco resorts in Tulum do have 24 hour electrical power , but you must definitely check those particulars before going if that is a priority for you.

The need to be green has reached way beyond the Greenpeace set.  Mull it over and consider doing greater than your part.
